Born in Suffolk, Megan had a passion for music from a young age. Growing up close to Snape Maltings gave her the opportunity to learn from and be involved in various projects with world class musicians. This wonderful experience inspired her ambition to become a professional musician.
Megan studied both jazz and classical piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Huw Warren and Michael Young respectively. During her studies, she was awarded the Gilbert Prize for Piano Performance for demonstrating an “outstanding ability in communicating to an audience through performance, conveying compelling interpretative ideas and individuality of expression”.
A diverse musician, Megan has performed in numerous venues and festivals around the country as a soloist, in ensembles and choirs, and playing keys in musical theatre productions. Highlights include performances at the Brecon Jazz Festival and the Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall.
Megan has an interest in a wide variety of music and loves to incorporate different styles into her performances. It was her passion of fusing multiple genres together which led her to found The Olive Collective, an experimental trio that combines influences from Western Classical, jazz and world music into their work. With a lyrical, exploratory voice that has been described as “absolutely astonishing”, the group is characterised by a love of discovering the different atmospheres and sound worlds that their instruments can create together. The trio is a great musical outlet for Megan, getting to explore, improvise and use extended techniques, all while working with and responding to other musicians. She also writes original works for the trio.
She believes passionately in the power of live music and the importance of making music accessible for all, and is therefore proud to be a Live Music Now musician. Alongside giving interactive concerts for socially isolated communities, Megan also enjoys leading creative workshops and projects in schools and community groups.
